Stars

up overhead they appear

smug in wisdom they smile

serenely over all and

mock the efforts of

puny man.

ice-cold in confidence

they laugh at folly and

ignorance

they chuckle over

sordid details

of lives of unknown people.

in blinding blue diamond

hardness they shine, they wait, they listen

for truth for us to act

to think to reach at last . . .

the stars.
