53. Did you like the story? Find yourself bored with it?  in any case, explain why?

 

54. Would you like to read more stories by the same author?  Find out more about his/her life?  Why or why not?

 

55. Does the story inspire you?  Repel you?  Depress you?  Startle you? Help you understand your own feelings?  Make you angry or convince you you're right about something?  Why and how?

 

56. Is the author concerned mostly with telling about particular events; presenting exciting action; evoking a particular mood; portraying a certain character or characters; or imparting a particular message?

How does he do this?

 

57. From what point of view is the story told?  Is this point of view effective in conveying the story's action?  Why or why not?  How might the story have been different a different narrator had related it?

 

58. Does the protagonist (main character) come across as a real person or as a cliche?  Have you ever met anyone like the protagonist or the other characters?  Are you yourself like any of them?  Are you fond of them?  Why, and in what ways?

 

59. Does one isolated event start a whole chain of reactions which disrupt the life of the protagonist?  Does he or any of the other characters ever achieve happiness?  If so, how and why?

 

60. What, if any, real-life information (history, customs, culture, etc.) is given in the course of the story?  Does it seem tacked on, or is it presented subtly?

 

61. What, if anything, does the story teach you about how society works?

About relationships and interactions of people (friends, families, co-workers, rivals, etc.)?  Is the story optimistic or pessimestic about people?

 

62. How does the title relate to the story?  Is it a good one?  An attention-grabbing one?  A misleading one?  Does the title have a double meaning?  Suggest another title for the story.

 

63. What would you change about the story to make it better?  More exciting?

 

64. Can you imagine the story as a novel or a play?  What changes would have to be made?  Why does it work as a short story?

 

65. Can you imagine the story as a movie?  What changes would have to be made?  Would anything have to be left out?  What actors would you have play the parts of the characters?  Why these particular actors?  Which roles would require the greatest challenge to actors?  Why?
